What streams do
A track with a handful of plays reads as untested to anyone who lands on it — a playlist curator, a
promoter, a listener deciding whether to press play. Stream counts are public, and they function as a
credibility signal the same way follower counts do.
What they do not do
Three things worth being clear about:
- They are not royalties. Bought streams may not generate payable royalties, and
Spotify’s own artificial streaming policy
is explicit that detected artificial streams can be removed and can affect an artist’s standing.
Read that policy before ordering — it is Spotify’s rules, not ours. - They do not get you playlisted. Editorial playlists are chosen by people and by
Spotify’s own signals, not by raw stream count. - They do not build an audience. Streams without saves, follows or repeat listens do
not tell Spotify’s algorithm that anyone wants more.
If your goal is monetisation, this is the wrong tool. If your goal is that a release does not look
empty while you promote it elsewhere, it is a reasonable one.
